VOLUNTEERING missions

Application process and expenses

Purpose

The aim is to support actions of sustainable development and contribute to the right progress of the activities and partner’s project, providing volunteers.

The volunteers will share their know-how and skills during various missions, selected according to field studies and collection of the needs of the partner organization.

Process

Once Solid’Action has undertaken the first field study at the partner’s and on the project location, various different missions will be selected in collaboration with the partners.

Once the mission worksheets are validated by Solid’Action’s team as well as by the partner, Solid’Action will publish the missions on its Web site www.solidaction.coop .

The interested volunteers should reach Solid’Action and send their applications. The candidates matching the search profile will have to attend a pre-departure 2-day class, according to their experience of solidary travels in developing countries.

The selected volunteers applications will then be subjected to the partner’s approval. Once the volunteer is approved, the dates of the missions will be planned according to the volunteer’s availability and the partner’s agenda of activities  (taking religious holidays, or others,  into account).

As a guarantee of the quality of the missions, at least a tripartite convention mission is signed between the volunteer, the local partner and Solid’Action, exhausting the commitments of each one.

Cost of a mission

Solid'Action is not an association, but rather a cooperative that does not receive public funds or donations.
We chose transparency, with an economic model based on self-financing in both quality and ethics approach with the purpose to guarantee the sustainability of the cooperative, its action and its partnerships.

Thus, it is important to understand that, for instance, each volunteer doing  a mission proposed by Solid’Action, has to pay a contribution to Solid’Action, in addition of the travel and cost of livings.

Volunteers also finance their own pre-departure training, compulsory training to make sure they are able to adapt themselves in a different cultural context.

Since Solid’Action was born last year and that the first volunteers will go on mission this year, the contribution cost paid by the volunteers is detailed as follow, hoping that as soon as possible, the “profit” coming from the other Solid’Action activities (trainings done in Europe and the solidary travels promotion) will permit us to decrease it:

  • Solid’Action cost of running: 290€
engineering costs for project study and analysis of local partners ‘needs, write down the corresponding and relevant missions, organize and prepare everything for the volunteer stay in order to avoid any disappointing experience for both partners and volunteers, communication and recruitment of the volunteers; follow-up of the volunteers and of the partner projects; etc).
  • Developing new projects and partnerships: 100€
cost of the exploratory missions in the countries : we travel to visit each projects of the partners we plan to sustain in order to make the diagnostic. This suppose 2 persons travelling twice in order to build the partnership.
  • Sustain to local structures projects :40€
This is a budget to permit some small expenses for the local partners.
  • Pre-departure training: 150€ for 2 days (paid to our French partner doing the training)

A total of 580€

in addition of the travel and cost of livings
(those are paid directly in local,
around 10-20€ per day depends on the country)
